Thanksgiving is only a couple of days away so I figured it was time to do our Bonus Day for the month- Thanksgiving. The kids are still pretty young and don't really understand holidays. It was fun to explain to them what we do on Thanksgiving and why we do what we do. The kids are mostly excited we are going to Grandpa and Grandma's house.
We then looked around our house and decided we decorate for Thanksgiving with lots of leaves, pumpkins, and turkeys. I then spread out the paper feathers provided by Mother Goose Time with number on them. The kids had fun playing with them. We then laid all the feathers out and the kids each selected one. They either told me what number they found or I helped them identify the number on the feather.
Next, I cut out some pictures from grocery ads. We talked about what foods we like to eat on Thanksgiving. The kids then selected which foods they would like to eat on Thanksgiving and glued them to their personal feast page.
Our last activity of the day was to create a turkey headband. Mason was having a rough time by then. (We have not gotten a ton of sleep at our house lately.) We talked about the noises turkeys make and how we can act like a turkey. I then asked them how can we look like a turkey. I then showed them the picture of the turkey headband in the teacher guide. We all worked together to make a headband for each of them. Mason was a not so happy turkey.
